The bar’s owner Steven Smith tells Eater that Saturn will specialize in “disco cocktails,” or “playful, extremely neon-colored club drinks” which were popular “from the 1970s into the 1990s”  and can be recognized for their “day-glo fun flavors [in] thoughtful cocktails that don’t drink like a ‘mixologist’ made them — they drink like you’re having a fun party.”

Motivated to counter a national nightlife too populated by “big-box nightclub-style places”, as Smith described to Eater, Smith will be running the establishment alongside partners such as Shaun Folad, a noted Nashville bar owner. According to Smith, Austin’s downtown district, just south of the capital “is ripe for new nightlife, entertainment, and drinking spots.”

Partner Shaun Folad tells What Now Austin that the establishment’s food offerings are still being planned.

“We’re still trying to hammer out the food menu, but we haven’t gotten that done yet. Steven’s got his set of cocktails ready, and we’ll be getting together in Austin soon to hammer things down for the menu.”

And when can readers expect Saturn to be opening?

“We’re aiming for July, but it could open up in August,” says Mr. Folad.
