“Thompson Austin and tommie Austin—the dual-branded hotels in the heart of downtown Austin—are pleased to announce Arriba Abajo Rooftop Cantina, an exciting new culinary concept set to open in March 2024 on the hotels’ shared fourth-floor entertainment deck. Fittingly named after Mexico’s most popular toast, Arriba Abajo is about seamlessly bringing people together for an elevated experience perched within the Austin skyline,” the press release states

“We’re thrilled to introduce Arriba Abajo to the Austin community and bring a new distinct culinary offering to guests of Thompson and tommie,” said Nate Hardesty, managing director at Thompson and tommie Austin. “Our hope is to create a destination that locals and guests can celebrate. To achieve that, Arriba Abajo will touch all of the fourth-floor venues and bring with it a dynamic dining experience and curated activations to engage diners every day of the week, with the standard of service Thompson is known for.”

“The culinary direction at Arriba Abajo will be led by chef Marc Marrone, Head of Culinary Development for Hyatt, who brings nearly two decades of experience to the concept with previous influence in kitchens for TAO Group, Dream Hotels, Nice Hospitality and more. Marrone’s menu will invite diners to experience the flavors found in Oaxaca, Yucatan and Tulum, in a communal setting with dishes that celebrate the craftsmenship and creativity of the region. Dishes will range from small and large plates to share, and be complemented by a dynamic menu of craft cocktails, wines and spirits perfect for cheersing life’s moments. The beverage menu will have an emphasis on unqiue mezcal selections, with a private mezcal tasting room as part of the Arriba Abajo experience.”

“I’m excited to bring a fun new dining concept to the city of Austin whose menu fuses together the best of Mexico from coast to coast,” said Chef Marrone. “We look forward welcoming guests to gather, drink, dine and enjoy the skyline views from our rooftop oasis time and time again.”

“The atmosphere will be warm, inviting and convivial of the Mexican coast, creating an unexpected destination ideal for weekday lunches, happy hours, dinner celebrations and beyond. Complementing the new menus and aesthetic, Arriba Abajo will boast a lively line-up of inventive programming and experiences, both in the main dining room and on the rooftop pool deck, to engage the local Austin community and incoming guests.”
