The much-awaited casual Japanese restaurant Uchiba now eyes a summer 2023 opening in Austin, according to updated reporting by The Austin-American Statesman. Previously, the restaurant had been reported to make its debut at 601 W Second Street in Fall 2022, according to Eater, but the plans ultimately did not materialize.

Articulating the restaurant’s concept, the original Eater report states “Like the original Dallas restaurant and bar, the Austin Uchiba will serve yakitori, and other smaller bites, which presumably could include bao, dumplings, desserts, and, yes, sushi. The drinks menu will include cocktails, Japanese whisky, as well as sake, beer, and wine. It’s also fair to expect good happy hour specials.”

The restaurant will be run by the Austin-based Hai Hospitality Group which runs three other Japanese-inspired concepts such as Uchi, Uchiko, and Loro.

What Now Austin reached out to Chef Tyson Cole to inquire further about the restaurant’s opening delays, potential menu changes, and other pertinent information, but he was not immediately available for comment.

Until Uchiba finally opens its doors, curious readers may try the original Uchi, located at 801 South Lamar Blvd.
