The Tennessee-based fast casual brand Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken will soon be opening a location in San Marcos, according to a recent filing with the State of Texas. The restaurant will be located at 110 E. Martin Luther King Drive in San Marcos’s downtown area, near eateries such as Industry and Toma Taco.
Franchisee Janet Hickerson tells What Now Austin that they are currently in the process of getting their permits from the City of San Marcos.
“The city has been very responsive and we are just waiting for the permits to be finalized.”
When will the store be opening?
“Supply chain issues have delayed our ability to get the materials that we need, but I’m hoping we’ll be open by Summer 2023,” Hickerson says.
And why was San Marcos the chosen location for the upcoming franchise?
“I like the area—it’s a small but growing, vibrant area, and the surroundings are growing. It’ll be a good market for us.”
Finally, when asked why she became involved with the brand to begin with, Hickerson strikes a warm note.
“Everyone loves fried chicken. It goes beyond demographics. It’s really nice to see all types of folks together, eating and enjoying.”
